I paint scenes I’ve come across in the Okanagan Valley and surrounding areas, working in an alla prima style to create somewhat abstracted, vibrant impressions of how each place felt to me in that moment. I want to others to feel the sense of awe that comes with a beautiful moment in time.
Most of my work captures fleeting scenes at sunrise or sunset—times of day I’m especially drawn to (partly because I work during the day!) My paintings often feature glowing skies, dramatic clouds, and the luminous atmosphere that make those hours feel so magical.
I think painting is magical and limitless. Creating with colour is my favourite thing, and I like to use fun and interesting brushstrokes to create form and space. I try not to get mired in the details, while keeping the magic little marks that pull the viewer in.
